Spent the night at Union Hospital Trauma Centre. Brett in the wrong place at the wrong time. Went to buy take-out at his local shopping centre. Right next door is a garage one stop shop, with a heist in progress.

As he opened the door to go in, the gunmen opened fire, he took a bullet in the right arm, shattered the bones above the wrist. He had an emergency operation last night, and I will see him today.

The morning staff have told me that they are sending a trauma councillor to help him, especially as this is his second brush with death in 9 months.

Time will tell if the arm is permanently damaged. As you can imagine, he is in terrible pain.

Will speak to you later, I think were all shell shocked.

Love Christine.

My nephew was car-jacked and when the gun failed to go off, they gun butted him and tossed him out of his vehicle. It took him quite a while to recover from that incident. He's got some hard decisions to make now. His girlfriend won't marry him because he wants to leave the country, and she does not want to leave her family behind. He wants his child out of the country and the only way that will happen is if she marries him and the child gets put on his British passport. Maybe she'll change her mind now.

Oh, how horrifying.........what a hellhole that place is. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their heads read.

I truly hope he recovers the full function of his arm.

Let me be sarcastic when I state the S.A. lemmings' mantra - well, I don't need to, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Sorry to hear about that, makes me :curse: . I also read today about an old American couple in Hermanus, husband killed, wife assualted during robbery. I thought Hermanus was a relatively quite dorpy (town). shows you there is nowhere safe in south africa. we are getting out - only a few weeks till the wife and kiddies are in NZ

Hermanus is often touted on the homecomingrevolution type sites as being absolutely safe, no crime has ever existed there..blah blah. Feel so sorry for that couple. They obviously believed the lies that they read on some S.A. site or other.

I'm glad to hear that you've made plans and that you're leaving soon. Good luck

Yes TT, I know that mantra all too well. Good luck to you Kevin. The only sane thing to do anymore before you become yet another statistic. What kind of a world is that when you can't even go to your local shop anymore for basics without putting your life on the line?

Sorry to hear what has happened to your family and I hope decisions get made for the child to have a normal future out of that crazy place. I tell you it is the best thing we have ever done was getting out of there.

I shudder at the thought of South Africa being allowed to host the most prestige sporting event in a country where it is not safe to even walk into a store as you get gunned down. If the morons at FIFA go through with this and no-doubt there will be spectator’s killings I hope that FIFA are going to take responsibility. Perhaps it will end up in a mass action case against FIFA for not taking into account the safety of the visitors to gun-happy place like SA.

Amazing what you can buy with money – except life!

I wish Brett a full and speedy recovery. Post back & let us know how he is doing.

Cheers

Couldn't care about the country, the politics or anything - I hate it here!
