Default Who's who, where to etc

I am an FCA, qualified in Birmingham with BDO Binder Hamlyn (who got taken over by Deloitte).

I worked for Rolls-Royce Energy (nothing to do with the car company) in Coventry for 6 years initially as Financial Accountant then Finance Manager (12 staff) before moving onto doing a lot of systems work on Coda and then SAP.

After taking a generous redundancy package and blowing half of it on 3 months Down Under I got a 3 month contract at Marconi doing Hyperion work and I am still here 25 months later. But not for much longer!

Heading to Perth in October with wife Sam (now "retired") and 8 year old daughter. Looking t have a more active outdoor lifestyle.

Talking Re: Who's who, where to etc

Hi,

Joining the beancounters club!!!

ACCA qualified with five years post Qualified experience. We received our PR visa in Feb 05. I have been living in Brighton for 12 years but originally come from Manchester.

Me, my wife and 17 month old son are probably going to head out to Perth in Autumn 2006. We returned back from our validation trip to Melbourne and Brisbane areas at the end of May. We spent 10 months backpacking round Australia in 2000 and Perth is still our favourite Australian City. Our favourite area is The Kimberley (unfortunately, accounting jobs are a bit thin on the ground up there). We spent a few months in Perth on our trip and I worked at Curtin University at for a while.

I try to log on each day, but my only access is currently from work and work sometimes gets in the way of spending more time on here.

I am quite happy to help if anyone needs any advice, tips etc.

All you accountants heading to Perth - Line me up a job for when I arrive

Cheers to all

Mark

Assuming that you worked at Curtin as an Accountant, how did you find Australian accounting in comparison to UK?

I'm an FCMA, with 20 years experience, 15 post qualification. We're not in a great hurry to get to Oz, just got the PR as I'd be too old if I left it past next year.

Have some experience of Australian accountancy and law through being GFC of a company with Oz subsidiaries.

We plan to go to Perth but will finally decide when we're clearer about when we're going!

Hi I'm Rick I'm 24 and from Manchester.

At the mo I'm part qualified ACCA hoping to qualify within the next 2 years. Then make the move to Melbourne.

Hoping to go on my fiancees visa(she's a Podoatrist) if I can before qualifying just need to prove our relationship. Been together for 5 years but never lived together so no joint bills or rent book.

Any tips or handy info would be very helpful.

Good luck to all those applying and congratulations to all those who have the illusive visa.

Rick

Hi,

I was working on quite a specialised project looking at the impact of the introduction of GST on the cost of housing and student accomodation. The approach to work seemed quite laid back and the people I worked with were very friendly. The senior finance positions did not work the hours you would normally see in the UK. However, I do not think a University is representative of a normal company.

Cheers

This sounds like something you'd hear at the AA group (the drink one - not the car one!!)

Hello, my name's Judith & I'm an accountant.....:-))

ACMA in 1998 whilst working for at Shell in London for about 5 years (no I didn't count barrells!!), then moved to a smaller FTSE co based in the city, where I was GFC. Co had 2 US subs, so had frequent trips to Philly US (which is a lovely place). Managed the implementation of Agresso system across all sites, whilst still doing 9-5 job....that was fun....very grey now!
Went on Maternity leave in July04 and managed to get redundancy last Jan, which was fantastic. Now work locally in Kent as FC for a UK sub of a US Co. Seeing things from the other side now....how Parent co's whinge about deadlines...ha ha

Hoping to get visa during Sept and be on the Gold Coast by Easter 06. Never been to Oz before so it's all a huge risk, but what the hell...that's us accountants eh!!

The total package is hubby Wayne (retail - but thinking about a career change to builder - don't ask!!) and 1 year old son Zack. Oops nearly forget Jd and Tiger the cats...
