Studying Accountancy in Oz (from finance background)?
Hi all, I’m fairly new to these forums, and been scouring your posts for a while.
I’m British & seriously considering studying in Sydney, with the aspiration of attaining PR on graduation, and building a long-term future in Oz. I have a place on a Masters in Economics at the Uni of Sydney & UNSW (starting in July – but currently on hold), but the more I read the more difficult it seems to stay in Oz via this line of study (for your info, I have a Law degree, MSc Finance (securities/investment based, not accountancy) & 3yrs experience as a Bond Trader – all in UK).
However, it seems that studying for an accountancy degree accredited by ICAA/CPA may offer me the opportunity of PR – and provide a good fit with current skills and experience.
Couple of questions if you have a few minutes spare?
1) How do I assure any MSc Accounting I select is one that does indeed fit with CPA/ICAA pre-requisites, and therefore for a positive assessment as an international student on completion?
2) Is it really as straight-forward as this – study for 2yrs but do NOT actually need work experience in accounting? Am I missing something? (I understand the course itself will be no walk-over)
3) If anyone has gone down this route, I would really appreciate some guidance, as I confess to feeling a little lost with the DIMIA website.
Thanks very much. Jason
