This may be the case in our area too. Some folks with apple trees were complaining that the crop is looking tiny & poor. It seems like our severe summer-long drought has taken a heavy toll off many of the trees.

We are getting that too, the contrast with last year is amazing. I have one wild apple tree (for instance) that usually has half a dozen good apples. Last year, it had probably several hundred or a thousand apples ... I was cooking with them for weeks, and the deer and other wildlife had a field day. This year, no blossom and not one apple. Similar with several other apple trees.

Bumper year for everything here, apple tree is groaning under the weight of the apples we can't quite reach. The crabapple out front is the same and have never seen so many acorns.
I always wonder if mother nature is preparing us for another hard winter when the trees are this laden.

The 2013 acorn crop in Virginia was also low. Fewer squirrels here in Northern Virginia this year.

I am in BC (Canada) and while I have no idea how the commercial crops did this year, I know around here the backyard apple trees have done really poorly. My partners mom has 1 apple tree in her yard and usually has more apples then you would ever need, boxes of them. This year, we have so far spotted 6 apples on it, and it had almost no blossoms this year.

We had a fairly dry and warm summer as well as a very mild winter last year, so I am sure that played some role in it.

Apparently the wild berries have also been in short supply which has caused bears to venture into town more often looking for food.

Conkers, not very big but I'm still hoping to be able to show the grandees how to play conkers when they visit tomorrow

Lovely to see them!

I haven't noticed them in my area, but when I asked about conker trees a neighbor called the conkers buckeyes (?) and said there are a few American horse chestnut trees around.
