Re: Moving to America and very worried.
We were a little bit older than you when we moved over, and luckily didn't have Twitter, Reddit and all the rest of that cr@p to influence us. We could think for ourselves. When DH was asked to come over, we just thought, "let's go for it, if we don't, we won't be asked again". So glad we did. It's been an adventure with more ups than downs. At least try it, it's not so bad, and at least you can go back if you really hate it, but it does take about 6 months to really find your feet, so don't chuck it in after the first week.

I think this has already been said here but looking at the way OP has interacted with people here probably explains abuse received on other platforms.

On the odd chance the post aint trolling...
America has lots of immigrants, so many that you aren't anything special. Generally people will not give your country of origin any thought, but if it is an issue, its likely to be positive response. Most Americans have a reasonable favorable view of England (and Britain) there may be a bit of banter about bad food and bad teeth. I have had just one bad experience in 17 years, and even that wasn't a big deal, I just got on with my day. One thing that does get more response is accent, but it is always very positive. I am from Liverpool, and I am often complimented on my accent, people tend to enjoy hearing it, and like its sound.
I interact with 15-18 year old Americans daily, there is no great generation difference here. Real World interactions that you have with people in country are not the same as online interactions. A lot of social media is a bit toxic.

What a load of nonsense. I have a 17 year old daughter and an 18 year old son. Been in USA 4.5years (retaining their British accents)..... both survived lol. Many challenges indeed however Brit bashing not amongst them.

Re: Moving to America and very worried.
I have the visa issues sorted out, and i'm going to be moving to the US next year (January) to Columbus Ohio due to my company transfer from the UK to the US. I am really thinking of not going due to the massive anti British sentiment in the US. Everything I read from reddit, twitter, tiktok, online news etc.. It seems Americans really hate British people, accents, culture with an absolute passion, are my fears unfounded or is there a general anti Britsh sentiment in America? will I have to change my accent so Americans don't give me so much hate for the way I talk and mock me?
thanks for comments in advance.

Re: Moving to America and very worried.
We moved here when our daughter was 11. She went straight into 6th grade.
She made a conscious decision to lose her English accent because she didn't like the attention she got. No bullying. Just "say something" a hundred times a day.
She's 31 now and the only time her English comes out is when talking to us.

Thank God, the last thing we need in the US is a British, moped riding, football hooligan who drinks far too much and uses roofies to score with the girls. Bloody 20 somethings, they're all the same I tell you.

Well this thread really brightened up my Sunday morning despite my huge grin hurting my healing tooth abscess. Off to make another cuppa now and swallow my daily antibiotic. Must remind my kids never to set foot in America lest they get ridiculed and bullied for their British/Italian accents and upbringing.

My son is a young American. 23 years old.
He has chosen to live in the UK because he likes it here better. Apparently, he doesn't hate young Brits - in fact, he was out clubbing with them until 4am on Saturday night so he can't hate them too much.
