May I add:

Most forums, wherever you go, are likely have a FAQ or Wiki section. It is always a good idea to check those out first and then ask some specific questions.

Secondly, most people posting here are Brits. Believe it or not, the fact that we are not currently living in Britain does not mean that we "hate Britain". So when someone comes here and, in the very first post, announces that he hates Britain............ well, you get the drift, I imagine...

Don't worry about being young. You are still at that point in your life where you can lay a good foundation for the rest of your life. You don't have too many responsibilities just yet and still have the flexibility to make changes and you only have to answer to yourself and your parents. Just be sure not to rush into anything. At 19 I thought I had a clue and at my age I realize I was bull shitting myself. I honestly don't think you've thought out the consequences as well that go with this kind of decision and there are some.

I had itchy feet at your age but as you see the rest of the world you will realise that Britain is actually Great in so many ways.

I appreciate that i am probably being naive, but i thought i'd get some general guidance before seriously thinking about it. And i agree with the above that i am only young and don't have many responsibilites which is something that has made me want to consider it at such a young age, i'd rather try something than look back and think about what would have happened if i'd have tried it.

You're single UGA can you handle a 19 year old? Or rather will there be enough of him left to naturalise?

I'm in the same camp. I'd rather say that I've tried something than not attempted it at all. What I'd recommend is that you read a good amount of the threads in this section on what people go through and steps taken to make the move. It will give you a good idea of how massive an undertaking it is making a move. Other than that, do as Elvira says and read the Wiki-FAQ section of the website. There are good articles that will give more detail that I can give on how to initiate the process. As I've said and others on the thread it's very difficult if not impossible given that you have a lack of a uni degree (which has not been confirmed yet) and a career in one that has a surplus of already eligible citizens awaiting posisitons. Just FYI, I'm in the IT industry here and can vouch for the surplus and the lack of HB-1 sponsored positions.

Didn't you read my posts in the 'Turn Offs' thread. He's way to young for me. I go for older men anyway because I don't want to raise a man. You nutter.

One good thing about being so young is that if you really want to move to the US, you can direct your education and career specifically in that direction.

Take a look at which UK multinationals have large offices in the US - there are plenty in the financial and energy sectors, for example. You'd really need to specialise in a particular area. It would have to be a long term plan, and you should count on spending at least another 4 or 5 years in the UK.

For the record, I think the Britain of 2008 is not a brilliant place to live. There seems to be a sameness about the towns and cities and the high street stores. There's a culture of one-upmanship, selfishness, health fascism, and real disdain for the unemployed. Property prices are crazy.

We seem to have imported many of the worst aspects of US life.

Mooshoo.

Well done on wanting to broaden your horizons.

Maybe see if BUNAC has any schemes that might be suitable.

I married an American who is in the IT field, and it is very competative, especially if you have little experience and no educational background. You should search IT companies in the US and try submitting your CV and see what happens... don't get your hopes up too high though!

It's extremely rare to see a sponsored position in the US unless it's a specialty one. Given his age, he doesn't have enough experience to qualify for that. His best bet is to work for a US company in the UK and impress them. You have to work your way through the industry on the inside unfortunately. You might want to try Cerner. I know they have an office there. That way you can see an intracompany transfer.
