Default Getting a US visa

My fiancé would like to get a 6 months US visa and I wondered if any body can help us out on what to do, how long it takes also the dreaded interview or any help you could give. Also are you able to use your ESTA once you apply. Thank you!

He'll need a good reason why the 90 days on ESTA isn't enough, so what's his reasoning for needing longer? Is he of retirement age?

I'll move this to the US immigration section of the forum, as you've posted it in the Welcome Inn.

Good luck.

To visit the US for 3 months or over you need a B1/B2 visa, which allows up to 6 months.
People who are eligible for the VWP are not likely to obtain this, unless of non working age (retired)

https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...t/visitor.html

If over 80 an interview is not generally required.
The above website states its taking about 3 weeks to obtain interview if needed.

As others have asked, why does he NEED (not want) to stay in the USA longer than the allotted VWP 90 days? Simply wanting to is not enough, unless he on a vacation with a lengthy itinerary like hiking the PCT or something. Or if he's retirement age.

Also, can he afford to stop working for 6 months straight? Or perhaps he's already retired and not working?

Then the B1/B2 is the visa for him.

This may be a negative factor for the consular officer. That said, under no circumstances should he make any misrepresentations in his application.

Have several friends from the UK whose reason for a B1/B2 is to visit kids and grandkids - they have had no issues with this reason. It's the most widely one used by retired, older people

No doubt. That said, OP does not provide the status of said kids. Hence, my use of "may."
