Default What would you do car swiped!

So I go out to get in my car this morning and some A.hole has side swiped my left fender in the night and taken out the left side light, bulb intact....Paint work taken out!!

Is it worth calling insurance or would you just get it fixed!

$500 deductable.

If the damage to the paintwork is fairly localised and not too deep they might be able to use a polymer resin to fill any gouges and scrapes then repaint. In a Merc workshop this could cost $300 - $500 ish??? possibly less in a non-Merc.

Not sure about your insurance policy but you'll also need to factor the increased premium of any claim plus the deductible.

Take it down the bodyshop for an estimate.

Looks like it's a yellow car, judging from the paint chips they left.

Take a scraping and send it in to the Bones crew. They always find the bastards.

I keep my deductible at $1,000 saving about $100-$200 per year on my premium. Also if you make a claim, you may lose your safe driving discount for the next three years (always check with your insurance agent before filing a claim to determine how much your insurance premium will increase).

I bet there will be some seeds from a mysterious grass or droppings from a mysterious bug in the paint chipping that only grows or lives within a 1 mile radius of where the culprit works - Hodgins King of The Lab

Sorry about your car Poppy

I'd get a quote first. If the bumper needs replacing it will cost well into 4 figures. Then I would look into seeing how much I will be out of pocket with the insurance company. It's not just your no claims bonus but the premium may be increased.

True. A friend of mine ran into the back end of a truck when returned from the airport after dropping his wife off. There was no damage to the truck but the front end of his car was damaged. He was going to file a claim with his insurance company for $1,500 ($1,000 after the deductable) but I asked him to call his insurance agent first to make sure it would be worth it. The insurance agent stated that his insurance premium would increase by $600 per year (2 car family) for 3 years so he decided not to make a claim.

I'd do it out of own pocket.

FTR, GEICO (at least here in NY) never charged me increased rates if I filed a claim under comprehensive. I've had them since 1972 and had enough claims to know of what I speak.

Comprehensive claims are not driver related and will not effect your driver's record.

Well the light is only $27.50 but had to call another dealership because Mercedes in Modesto the damn phone lines are wacked they connect then drop the calls so am trying to get through to them to pick the part up..as for the damage thats pending a cost.....but I did note that my Comp less deductable is $250 not $500 which I originally thought.

What a to do!!.....I am going to tell the old gossip opposite that I know will inform the whole Cul-de-sac that I know who it is and if they don't fess up then I am going to take legal action because I have a witness and camera on the house.....I don't have a witness but we do have a camera just was not switched on they have 24hrs to come clean!!

I've got a scrape on the back of my car; someone got too close when getting out of a parking spot we think. I just left it - would rather spend my money on other things!

That one's yellow paint too - wonder if there's a link between yellow cars and poor drivers.
