I agree. I can handle fawning waitresses and shop assistants, but it gets a bit awkward when they are old enough to be my mother.

I know what you mean. My standard reply when that happens to me and they apologize is its ok you will always know the difference going forward. Mistake a Brit for an Aussie and they will invariably smile and laugh it off. Make the mistake the other way around and mistake an Aussie for a Brit and they will go all Napolean on you and get very indignant....
