Default Residency questions for my non-EU wife

I have recently purchased a property in Murcia, and having no other properties, this is the family home.

We currently live in the Middle East and will initially use the property for short breaks etc, but will at some point look to move there permanently.

Does anyone know if my wife would have to apply for a visa each time we plan on travelling there, or is there is a way whereby she can gain a form of 'residency' in Spain? She has no interest in retaining her current passport so citizenship is another possibility.

Do you have an EU passport ? Have you applied for Spanish residence ? If so she should be able to apply for residence as your dependent.

For shorter visits the foreign office has a list of countries from which they require a Visa.

Thanks for the response, LA..

I am an EU passport holder, and both my wife and I have been issued with our NIE numbers. That is as far as things have got..

The OP states that they will only initially use the place in Spain for short visits so they cannot apply for residence.

This is for people who make Spain their home not for people who come for short stays or live here temporarily.

This thread has information that you may find useful.
