I don't see that it matters? Women do not have to take their husband's surname on marriage. We do not have to be the possession of our husbands, after all Mrs Smith is just an abbreviation of Mistress of Smith.

Whilst I appreciate that I may be in a minority in this view (and no doubt seen as some sort of hairy-legged, man-hating feminist. Again! ) I do not understand why so many women change their own, perfectly good, name on marriage.

I know lots of women who did not change their name upon marriage, (myself included), so don't think you are in the minority on this one. Mind you I am surprised how some men do feel quite offended if their intened does not take their name..
