Hi,
This may be old news, but anyway....
I was speaking to a high ranking member of ACCA Australia(this is the net, so not fair to name names)
Anyway, I had several questions, and the results were as follows.
1. ACCA Australia has revised the management, and there is a new MD/CEO for the last 10 months in that office.
2. ACCA will begin a deal with Kaplan to provide tuitition for the Dec '09 exams in Australia.
3. This tuition will begin in Sydney & Melbourne, and be rolled out later on to any city which has a demand of 6 or more students for any course.
4. ACCA will not be seeking an MRA with CPA, but is seeking recognition on its own merits.
I think its good news, but perhaps old news. Anyway, it means they are actively taking active steps to sort out ACCA Australia.
How the conversation started, was I want to do my final 3 exams in Australia in probably Dec 2010. So it means I can do just that, without having to use the distance learning.
As always, these are posts on the net, so dont change your life based on what I say. Call them yourselves !!

The problem is that many Australians prefer, and will continue to prefer, local qualifications.

In Ireland, if you want to be an Auditor, you must be either ICAI(chartered accountant) or ACCA.
Surely it will be the same in Aus, if ACCA is successful.

But, am I not right in saying that like in Ireland, if its given independant recognition, then it will be considered a local qualification.

To be fair local employers are not fools - I have found if you take the time to discuss the ACCA qualification and compare it to CPA its comes up very well. Employers will judge the qualification favorably if you just give them a chance.

Problem is that as soon as you have to start explaining, you are immediately at a disadvantage to those who have a local equivalent.

Hmm I disagree - if your skills are strong and this is the only issue I think your in a good position to talk through any issues they have with the qual. Obviously this is just my experience.
