I wouldn't dob in the illegal (even if they did come on to my OH, hypothetically )... but if one took my income, yes, I'd seek to nail the employer who allowed it to happen.

Surely it depends who they are - I mean, if you have a friend who overstayed their visa would you be less likely to dob them in than you would a stranger over-staying?

I remember an American guy who worked behind the bar of a pub I frequented in the Uk being arrested for over staying his visa. Cannot remember if it was accidental but He was a nice guy and not trying to hide. But as they knew where He was, That was that. But considering all the other illegals involved in crime who get banged up in UK prisons and even then not deported after,It rather annoyed Me. But had I lost a job due to him I would not hesitate.

Broadly speaking it depends on their intent/activities really. It it was backpackers or the like trying to squeeze just a bit more out of their visa I would consider that they're probably intending to leave in the short to mid term so would turn a blind eye. If it was someone who had illegally arrived in the country or remained here for a very long time after their visa expired then yes I think I would dob them in. And if I suspect anyone of carrying our immoral/harmful activities I'd dob them without a second's hesitation.

Way back during my first holiday here in 77/78 I applied for an extension on my holiday visa because I'd met a girl who became my now wife and wanted to stay with her.. The local Aus authorities granted that Visa....Problem is we had 3 months to decide whether we would set a wedding date or not. So very reluctantly I went back to the UK Deciding that was just a little too much pressure. I went back worked all the OT I was capable of plus worked Part time. I was working over 70 hours a week and earned enough to come back within 4 months and sustain myself here for quite a while. I applied for another Visa...Got my Passport back from Aus house with a big square refused entry stamp, Which basically meant I was not allowed into Australia again.....They refused because I'd broken the terms of the Holiday visa in applying to stay on.

Didnt take much persuading to get my then Girlfreind to come to the UK instead... Which was a big decision for a 20 year old Aussie Country girl. Luckily everything went smoothly and we were married within 20 months. It still took the Aus Authorities over 6 months to grant my residents Visa.. Makes me wonder how much checking they did on us.

Point is I would have gladly became a Illegal Alien at that point and there were regular amnesties at that time. Because of my History I definitely wouldn't dob in an Alien.
