My fiance and I are in Canada on work permits. We are planning on applying for immigration within a few months. I have just found out I am pregnant and thanks to your site, know the baby will be a Candian citizen as it will be born here. If things don't go our way, can we be made to leave Canada if our baby is a citizen?

As far as I am aware, the child's Canadian citizenship does not automatically apply to the parents (nor should it!), but when they are 18 they can sponsor their parents for immigration. No doubt someone who is more au-fait with the law concerning this scenario will be along to correct me in due course.

The OP may not be eligible to apply for PR now (she hasn't said), and even if she is, the baby will make no difference at all so doesn't need to be explained.

Am I right in thinking that Canadian citizenship can be stripped from you, if you obtained it through naturalisation, therefore allowing the deportation of foreign citizens who have committed a serious infraction?
