Does anyone know anything about hours of work per week and qualifiying for a visa?
I am looking at doing a part time work job with Autistic children. Most of the shifts are evenings for about 5 hours. I have heard the minimum amount of hours you can work is 25 hours per week. Does anyone know anything about this at all? ie what if for some reason I was working 5 shifts a week (which equals 25 hours) and a shift got cancelled and I only did 20 hours in one week, what would happen??
If anyone knows anything in detail about part time work on an E3 I would be greatly appreciative.

Hey this forum is great for E3.
Did anyone in this forum apply for E3 and E3D extension with Vermont service center? I applied in July, receipt date of 29th July and still waiting for any news. Previously I got extensions in 1-4 weeks time but this time it is almost going to be 2 months and nothing yet. USCIS status is still stuck in 'initial review'.
If there is anyone in similar situation out there please post your receipt date and if you got any updates from VSC. Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I've recently had an offer to do some work in the US - it's with a small startup company, fabulously interesting work with people I know and admire, and I know I should be eligible for an E3 visa. It all sounds good! The only concern I have is that the employer might not fill the requirements to sponsor me: they're small, the work is likely to be project-based (but with an opportunity to stay on), and they won't be able to pay in full until completion of the work (being a start up and all, cash flow is a bit lumpy until there's a steady stream of projects). Does anyone know if they'd be able to sign off on my E3? what kind of evidence would they need to provide that they will be paying me and it's all legit?
thanks!!

Hi again.
My LCA has been certified, the immigration lawyer has submitted my DS-160 and I am waiting to hear when my interview is.
I was just wondering what the actual documents are that I take with me to the interview, the immigration lawyer is telling me that I have to take the hiring company's tax returns and bank statements with me to the interview to prove to the US Consular Officer that they can pay me and also a letter of support stating that if for some reason the employment doesn't work out they they will pay for my plan ticket out of the US. Is this correct? From my understanding the only documents I have to take to the interview are: Certified LCA, Job offer letter, my credentials, Confirmation slip of DS-160 and my passport.
Thanks again.

Hi all,
Thought I'd post back with some good news and give my account of the process - my visa was approved
. I'm an Aust Citizen and Canadian Permanent Resident, so with that being said, I had my interview yesterday in Ottawa - I had to wait 22 days to get the appointment and it was the only city in Canada offering appointments for the E3 visa. I drove 6hrs with my 4yr old from toronto. My appointment was scheduled for 10:30 am and we arrived about 10 mins early, went through the usual security, checked in and handed over our DS-160's, Aust passports, my Canadian Permanent Resident card and my daughters Canadian Citizenship Card. We were then sent through to a window booth where we again handed over our passports etc, DS-160's, LCA and job offer letter. We waited for about 10 minutes, were called for fingerprinting, waited about 5 minutes and were then called for the interview. I was asked what it was that I did as he had never heard of it before and how long I had been doing my profession - 17 years, he said wow that's a really interesting job! He asked my daughter her name and then said "well I'm going to go ahead and approve your visa and you'll get your passports back in 1-2 business days, congratulations on your job and welcome to the United States of America", obviously I was stunned and completely happy
As a side note, I don't have a degree, but have 17 years works experience and my profession is not a typical "speciality occupation" in fact it is an occupation that has never been granted a visa before. My hiring company hired an immigration lawyer to put our application together and when it was sent to me it was about 2 inches thick - the guys at the US consulate laughed at it and said "crazy lawyers, they make this more difficult than it is". The only documents they took from the 2 inch thick package were: Fee confirmation page, DS-160's, LCA and job offer letter.
I was in and out by 11am, everyone was so friendly and very welcoming. My daughter and I are very much looking forward to escaping the Canadian winter and heading south next Wednesday.

Hi all,
We have been travelling around the US on B visas (which we got in Canada) for the past few months and have been offered a job in Boston now. A bit unexpected as we were planning on heading to the UK next. SO we really do not want to have to fly back to Aust as we have 2 children and to put them on a plane for that long and then back on it a few days later would be a bit too much. Plus we are worried that we will have a mutiny on our hands if they see their friends and then get dragged away a week later.
I have read alot of the blogs on this post and while I haven't read anything saying you can't get your first E3 outside of Aust, it doesn't seem to be the done thing and the Canberra embassy site is a bit ambiguous saying you have to get the first one in Aust but then saying you can pretty much get it anywhere.
So we were wondering what the verdict is. Can we do it from Canada, London or Bahamas or not??
Your advice will be appreciated.

I got mine (first E3 visa) March 23, 2011 in Vancouver, no problem in getting it. I have read some here
got theirs in London a few weeks before I did, they too did not seem to have any hiccups.

That's good to hear, thank you. 24 vs 8 hours each way on the plane with kids is much easier to handle.

Hi there
I am currently in Hawaii from Australia. I have a complex question and I’ve spent hours on the net to seek answers I can’t find.
I was granted an E3 with one organisation which I had to go back to Australia to file. I returned to the US 5 weeks ago but the first 2 weeks I spent travelling around on vacation. I was told by the Qantas employee to enter as a tourist as there’s a 10 day timeframe to enter and start work on the E3 and change my status when I get here.
So I arrived in Hawaii 3 weeks ago and have found a new employer. My previous employer currently has no work/budget which I knew and it’s been my intention to come here on their E3 to find a new job which I thought I would do but given the Qantas guy told me to enter on the VWP, I filled out my customs paperwork accordingly. However on my passport I have the WT stamp but no 3 month max exit date. Every other stamp from previous trips on the VWP has a date.
So my new employer has filed for a new LCA which we are awaiting. My question is, given I entered on the Visa Waiver, is there any possibility of changing that status based on what the Qantas guy advised me? I’d like to start work asap. Would I have to return to Australia and re-enter on my existing E3 and then take up the new LCA?
And just on the change of employer process. Once I have the approved LCA…what is the next step? I’ve been emailing the Consulate in Melbourne but they’re always very short on advice and keep telling me to contact USCIS. I’ve searched their site high and low and have no clue what the process is.
My current E3 with the job that has no work expires in May. The new job is indefinite.
Any advice would be really great. The E3 really is a headache and it took me 5 long months to get it not having a Uni degree. But I proved many wrong and I’m now going to be working in the non profit sector. Happy to pass on all the advice I’ve gained along the way if required.
Please put me out of my misery and tell me I don’t have to leave the US

Should never have taken advice from an airline employee!!!! Consult an immi attorney instead of taking advice from anyone on the forum. Please post back your experience for others if possible. Good luck!
