The contact that I gave you was able to say when HA received J's ID book application. ...Not that it was much help because we're still waiting for it.
But this side it's purely academic really because none of us are going to SA (or anwhere else for that matter) for at least the next year. Alas.

My ID book is not that critical at this point. I just needed a barcoded one to transfer money from S.A. to Oz. But since that's all done already, I'm not too worried.
I could also just apply for one from here, which I may just do of it doesn't turn up fairly soon.

Cheers. I will pursue that avenue. The kids passports are the main thing (10 year ones) in case we we snuff it soon, then they could travel back to S.A. if need be and for the future.

Do you still have your old ID book? I changed mine years ago. A good job too because the photo in the old one was seriously terrible.
What could I have been thinking when I submitted that photo?

We'll see how this all pans out this week. He is in front of his "superiors" at the ANC on charges of bringing the organisation into disrepute. If found guilty, he will be suspended from the ANC (he's already on a suspended sentence). Of course, if this happens he could be even more dangerous than he is now? What is worse than a madman with nothing to lose? If he doesn't get suspended, then the whole thing is an utter farce and the fish is even more rotten than we thought. Either way, interesting times ahead...

Excellent news - I was going to go to Harrison Street in Joburg today to get my PR moved to my new UK passport, but heard it is too dangerous with the protests. My brave, plucky and lowly-paid driver has gone instead. I'll miss him.
Nice avatar picture by the way, who is it - your new boyfriend?

Left my laptop unlocked and wifey took advantage and changed it! Must be her new BF.

Actually, I'm just trying to improve my image.

By the way, it was depressing but not surprising to see that the SA government was the last to hold out in defence of their old comrade Gaddafi.

Well done!
Did they ask you to send another recorded delivery packet for the ID books when they arrive?
...Thinking of dropping in at the High Comm tomorrow to collect the birth certs and passports. Then when the ID book eventually arrives they can just pop it in the post to us.
