I've booked Pickfords to get our stuff out to Rotorua on 29 December. However, we are gobsmacked by the cost of insurance. Has anyone brought their gear without insurance? £40 per cubic foot!! Our stuff isn't worth that much, but it sentimentally precious.
Thoughts appreciated!

Be warned though if Pickfords are anything like the company we used (PSS), as soon as you inform them that you're not taking their policy they step up the pressure repeatedly informing you of disaster scenarios involving other insurance companies that 'never' paid up.
Although I never had cause to claim on the policy I have no doubt that it would have been handled very efficiently and without hiccup - I run an insurance company for a living so I like to think that I know what I'm doing in this respect... I checked Letton Percival out thoroughly before putting my business with them!
Give them a try and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Yes, we too went with Letton Percival and have no complaints.
The removal company didn't like it one little bit though and basically tried to cancel our move on the day it was due, we had to call BAR and get them to call removal company. We got it sorted in the end and reckon it saved us heaps.
