Ok, here we are in Oz, we opened our NAB bank accounts today, cards obviously will take about a week or so to get to us. However today we saw a car, an owl banger, for $5000, how do we get the money from our UK bank accounts out to pay for the car? Could we withdraw it from our new bank, somehow?!

If you have an internet account just do an online transfer, the U.K bank will charge about £12 and similar amount here and you should get the money the following day.

register with ukforex and it shouldn't cost you a penny in transfer fees. Might take a few days with registration etc can't quite remember. Failing that, could you phone your bank at home and get them to up your daily withdrawal limit so you can take it out the cash machine here? or is it way too much for one transaction?

) - you can, in an emergency, go to an Australian bank with your passport and the card and get as much money as you want (AFAIK) over the counter. They do it as a credit card transaction, so there will be fees on both ends.Obviously, there are much, much cheaper ways of transferring money (as you know) - its just a matter of timescales! We used the above method as a stopgap when we realised that A&L would only allow us to withdraw $150 a day from a cashpoint.

Gonna go to bank this avo to see if they'll let us withdraw from our UK bank accounts, even if it's half from mine and half from Simon's then grand, that'll do. Car can be held for $100 so not too bad, but we need it like NOW lol lol lol
