I'm being told in UK that it would be better to wait until I'm in Portugal before buying Vodaphone dongle(PAYG version). Apparently if I buy in UK and try to use in Portugal(Lagos area) I'll be charged almost £10 per day every time I log on to the Internet, whereas if I buy in Portugal I'll simply need to pay top up fee (presumably the euro equivalent of the UK price per 1GB of £15) or something like it.
On the same subject, would it be better to take Mac or PC laptop? I've been told that trying to use a dongle with a Mac is difficult - even impossible. Can anyone throw light on the subject?

I do a lot of travel and have got a few dongles and a couple of telephones as well, there is no way around it. My Blackberry for Jan in Portugal was 250 quid and last August I paid £2000.00 to T-mobile for using a Blackberry and Dongle in Abu Dhabi and Sharm El Sheikh.
So the best thing to do is have one of each, switching Sims does not work either (there might be some long winded way of unlocking them, but hey, life is too short).

Before buying a Dongle, get Vodafone to check the reception speed as not all areas are good and using the dongle outside of your location within Portugal will incur a 3 euro something a day charge.
