Vodaphone dongle

I'm being told in UK that it would be better to wait until I'm in Portugal before buying Vodaphone dongle(PAYG version). Apparently if I buy in UK and try to use in Portugal(Lagos area) I'll be charged almost £10 per day every time I log on to the Internet, whereas if I buy in Portugal I'll simply need to pay top up fee (presumably the euro equivalent of the UK price per 1GB of £15) or something like it.
On the same subject, would it be better to take Mac or PC laptop? I've been told that trying to use a dongle with a Mac is difficult - even impossible. Can anyone throw light on the subject?

Hi, yes you pay around €50 for the dongle, it comes with €10 on it then you top up like a phone...€10 = 10 hours internet.

Have no idea about Macs, and I've thrown the box away so can't tell you what it says about using it with a mac sorry.

Lagos area is covered by cable, with 50 Euros a month you will get, trough cable, Portuguese sky, free land line phone calls and up to 120 Mb of internet speed. Also you can use fiber connection with that price and have several TV´S and computers working at the same time

That's the set up I have been using when down in the Algarve (VF Dongle and Mac). It is possible with Macs but the VF dongle software doesn't work. If you google it you will find how to set it up for Mac OSX. One point - you can't actually tell how much credit you have left on the Mac - I have to use it occasionally on an XP machine to see the balance.

If you have Sapo internet at home you can buy a dongle and get free mobile/payg internet.

Same with Meo, I think they are €19 which reminds me I need to complain that my wireless is not wireless!

I can't connect wirelessly upstairs, they came, it worked fine on their laptop, they went, it has never worked since.

I have even now bought the Meo dongle to see if that works and what a surprise it doesn't....I'm wondering if I have some lead in the ceiling! LOL

But I can't even connect wireless on my desktop that is sat right next to the router.

I have no idea how come his laptop worked and none of mine does.

Sounds like a simplistic question, but what's your cell phone signal like in and around the building?

oh it's fine, thought of that.

Have no idea what the problem is, maybe some interference from somewhere?

No experience of that but once you go out of the country where it is registered you have to be careful on use as otherwise you will incur heavy charges.
