Sigh.....................our "home" and main residence is UK -our car lives in Spain - very happily apart from its yearly check-up. Did you read the DVLA extract - where does it say that it's ILLEGAL to have the car in Spain?
Anyway - I'm getting bored with this now - we'll just carry on doing what we've been doing - thank you

If you care to read your SAGA policy schedule you will see

I have claimed once on my car insurance and have used the breakdown service on the insurance twice. The insurance company never queried any part of my claim.
Yes there are British people here who drive untaxed, uninsured, no MOT vehicles. Do you classify me in the same vein as those people even though my car is insured, taxed and MOTd.
Most of your views are that I am driving here illegally. As far as I am concerned the Guardia Civil have said that I can drive here on UK plates so long as the car is insured. We get stopped occasionally by the Guardia so that documents are checked - never a problem. The Guardia know who we are and we know who they are? We have now lived here for over three years.

I do not judge you or take any moral stance. I am simply giving my opinion, ............

There they will now give you a Residencia certificate and an NIE number if you don´t already have one.
This means you are resident in Spain, it is illegal for a Spanish resident to drive a foreign plated car unless it is in the process of matriculation.
Some one else on here had the same opinion as you and he actually got pulled and had his car impounded, he lost use of the car for a couple of months until he got the paperwork sorted, charged storage and fined, so keep a look over your shoulder all the time cos it will happen one day to you.

Thank you, but I don't need any help in intrepreting the guide - I can read - which appears to be something that you have trouble with
here, once again, is the relevant extractTaking Your Vehicle Abroad for Less Than 12 months (Temporary Export)
If you are taking your vehicle out of the country for less than 12 months you must make sure you take your registration document (V5) or certificate (V5C) with you. If you do not have one, you should apply to a DVLA local office on form V62, available from Post Office® branches, DVLA local office or download on the vehicle forms link below. The registration certificate may take up to 14 days to arrive. If you need to travel during this time you will need to apply for temporary registration certificate. You should apply well before your journey, as there could be delays of up to 14 days in issuing the certificate if you are not already recorded as the vehicle keeper. There is a fee for this service.
You should make sure that you meet any international and national conditions for licensing and taxation. Further information can be found in leaflet V526 called Taking your vehicle out of the country.
Now - just how difficult was that to understand?

Errmmm - am I missing something here?
Why am I being singled out as a target - another poster is quoting almost the same experience as myself yet is being left alone. Is it a policy on this forum to treat newcomers this way - just wondering

There are so many threads on this subject whether you are legal or not. It is the people who drive here uninsured etc that should be condoned. But I do not imagine they read this site.
I know someone locally who drives a 4x4 with the thread showing on his tyres, also someone who drives his Harley with no tax, insurance and MOT. These are the people who you should be aiming at.
If I go back to the UK once a year and take my vehicle back to be MOTd and taxed I should not be criticised by the people on this site.
On another matter, I have more problems with the police in the UK than here in Spain. In the UK I regularly get stopped because they have the vehicle listed with no insurance on their database. We carry the insurance all the time in car.
We received a speeding ticket last time in the UK (well OH did) and they were adamant that it was a female driving the car and not a male. We never denied he broke the speed limit, but they accused me of lying on the forms when I said the OH was driving the car. They sent photographic evidence to me as I told them the car was based in the Spain. Well I got extremely cross with them and told them that if they did not apologise for accusing me of lying on the paperwork I would take them to Court - do not know what for but I would think of something. When I pointed out to them it was a left hand drive they sent me a letter, no apology, but cancelling the speeding ticket.

What has motoring law in the UK got to do with a car that belongs to someone who by living in Spain for 6 months is deemed as a resident. Its Spanish law that has to be followed not British.
Also one assumes that the poster who thinks he has the local guardia civil in his pocket drives to other areas thus risking getting pulled over by someone who knows the law and happy to give a huge fine.

Don't be silly! I've been driving my car on the left side of the road all my life, I'm not about to change now! If the Guardia stop me, I'll give them the URL of the DVLA website which says I must keep left unless overtaking!

Something woke me very early this morning and I made myself a coffee and sat on the still-dark terrace reflecting on my honesty, evidenced by all those important piles of papers indoors. Did it matter that the local mayor, police chief, a gaggle of lawyers and bankers were all in prison for corruption?
I had been woken by the sound of police sirens and gunshots.

Cant do that, but this may put some more light on the subject
http://ukinspain.fco.gov.uk/en/help-...-in-spain/cars
I guess the question is down to if any given subject should be registered as a resident or not.
