Hi Guys,
Hope someone can help...
I failed my electricians vetassess in Feb and am re doing it again in July.
These are the three things i apparently failed on:
CORE UNITS
1. Applying OHS practices in workplace.
2. Install low voltage elec apparatus and associated equipment.
3. Find and repair faults in electrical apparatus and circuits.
Not really sure which part of the test these things were?
Thought i did pretty well, but obviously not ??
Can anyone help, and will i have to resit the whole day again ?? Hope not!!
Thanks Guys
Scott and Tina

hi scott, not very clear on their notes are they?
i passed mine last year and am now out here working. i think you will probably have to re-sit the whole event. they do love to charge for everything they do in australia. may be worth dropping them a line and ask for clearer guidance on where you stumbled, and maybe request you demonstrate only what they werent happy with.
for what its worth i reckon
1. OHS practice would be failure to use PPE in workshop, or more likely, they werent happy with your isolation procedure. i assume you carried out a lock and label isolation?
2. installation of apparatus, can only imagine it was your instal. ours was a dis board with 2 way lighting and radial power ccts.
3. find and repair. probably the test set with motors, resistors and a full simulated installation. did you do the test of the ccts with meggers and the like?
hope this helps, if not pm me and we will have another go

Just remember going overboard on the PPE, overalls, boots,hi viz, goggles, gloves!
Even bought some lockouts/labels especially for the day.Been in my van collecting dust ever since
And overstate your isolation procedure!!check-blah-check again.
Also remember on the installation, (DB, 2way switch of light and radial) the examiner was really hot on the spacing out of equipment as to their drawing. He pulled me on the socket being 5mm to far over. Just remember the little things like min bend radius also.
Hope your successful this time

I think you will find the answers on here a lot better than on the poms in oz site, no offence to them but it seems quite misguided for sparks on that forum!

Hi Tina and Scott
Alot of this depends on the assesor you get. mine was sound. and i did see him a few times calming people down and giving them a 2nd chance.
Once he saw you was up to the work he would give little pointers out, but there was a few people that clearly had probably never worked as a spark or were just useless and he saw straight through them hence the reason for this.
There was one guy who took his main earth for his board of the light switch!!!????.
We all felt really relaxed. I did nt struggle with any of the theory or practical but that might have been different if it was not for him being a really nice bloke.
How ever he did say that some of the assessors are complete w**kers. so i hope you get someone who can make you at ease next time.
Heres what i think they mean.
If you look in your practical candidate guide at the back there is a safe isolation that you must learn for the disconnection and reconnection process. its way over the top! but you have to learn it. (some assesors let you take it in and some dont).
The fault finding will be for sure on the motor control circuit. check your parallel hold on the contactor. mine was friged out!
The install...
i got a dis board a single socket 1 x light and 2 switches to be done partly in conduit with some sets etc. make sure you sleeve your straps with brown. make sure your measurements are spot on and your 6mm supply earth is connected to the copper tube (earth rod) from main earthing terminal.
You ll be surprised at what i saw some people doing.
earth all the back of your boxes if there metal.
hope this helps, pm me if you need any more info while its fresh in me head!! if not good luck!

Bang on that mate, exact same when I did mine, they do a kind of informal interview to find out if you have been a spark, but very helpfull, top answerHi Tina and Scott
