I come bearing good news this time!
On the Gamecube, I had a disc called a Freeloader. This allowed me to import US games and play them on my UK console (and vice-versa... eg. UK games on a US console). It worked faultlessly with every single game I imported. The creators, Datel, are hard at work developing a Wii version, so I wouldn't sell those UK games just yet.

Hi,
We are looking to move to Canada in Jan/Feb next year but our sons want a Nintendo DS this Xmas. As these are portable, and thus do not link up to a TV, is there any difference between the Canadian and UK versions? If so, will I be able to buy games in Canada that work on a UK console?
Any help is greatly appreciated - thanks.

You won't have any problems you can buy games for these in Canada for your UK machine and they will work fine, I buy American/Canadian games all the time for my machine. You will just need a plug convertor to charge it but when I was in Canada I just used my friend's plug in my UK machine and that worked fine too.

A word of warning on the PAL-to-NTSC decoder: we tried this solution for our PS2, but quickly gave up. There's about a half-second processing delay in the decoder which means by the time you see what's going on on screen you've already crashed/been shot/fallen in the swamp/insert appropriate phrase for your game here! After a weekend of much head-scratching and frustration we swapped our PS2 with a friend who was heading back to the UK, in exchange for some other goodies that wouldn't have been much use to him in 240-volt-land.
We solved the problem using a little-known store in Vancouver called Foreign Electronics @ www.multi-system.com They specialize in all things to do with international voltage/video/mobile phone systems and are a must-know for anyone relocating.
There we purchased a Multi-System LCD that works perfectly with PAL and NTSC systems and is also dual voltage, which is great for us as we are only here on work visas and may go back.
