Re: Has anyone moved their dog or cat from the US to the UK without an agent?

Sorry for the late reply. Been busy with doing the ToR and stuff. It's Starwood who I believe quoted you $4k from a later post. It looks like they vary a lot in cost.

Re: Has anyone moved their dog or cat from the US to the UK without an agent?

Wow. We've got a quote for $5,500 for two dogs from SFO to LHR and I thought that was pricey. One of the dogs is a big sod too. He needs a 48" kennel.

Re: Shipping cost from NJ, USA to UK

I'm looking at these posts and get the feeling we're being taken advantage of a little. We're shipping around 450 cubic feet of items from Oregon to the Isle of Wight. For door-to-door we've been...

Re: Suggestions for US location

Depends on the tax situation, but Oregon may be worth a look. Eugene is a nice town with direct flights to SFO. Bend has a good balance of city amenities but close to mountains, lakes, etc.

Re: Which passport to use ?

We arrived in the UK on Sunday. Used our US passports to exit, UK to arrive. For the Locator form and day 2 tests, we used our UK passports. No problems at all so far. All the documentation was...

Re: Work life in the USA compared to the UK, Software/IT Field

This has been pretty much my experience too. The most I've had was 10 days which was PTO and sick days combined. Most places were between 0 and 10. One offered "unlimited" PTO, but in reality never...

Re: Small amount of possessions to ship, best way?

Someone on another thread recommended upakweship.com. They're showing a price of $1,389 for a 50 cubic feet pallet from Oregon to the UK.

Re: Phone Sim

I picked up one from Amazon for our trip to the UK this week. That way, I have one in the phone right from the get go. I got one of these; https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FI1JW72

Re: State Drivers License

Just to back this up, same here. I didn't have to hand over my UK license when I got my Oregon one.

Re: Manchester Car Hire - Advantage Car Rentals

We used Advantage out of Heathrow on our recent trip. They're actually Europcar. Advantage seems to be their US moniker. No real issues other than the usual upsells. They did claim they didn't have...

Re: Applying for a Drivers Licence in California

It may be worth looking at doing your test at a DMV outside of the major cities. There was a 4 month wait at San Jose. I went to Los Gatos and got an appointment within 2 weeks.

Re: Best State to retire in

We retired to the Oregon coast back in 2015. Low property prices, low property tax, low utilities and no sales tax were all a factor. Yes, the weather can suck, but it is also insanely beautiful, and...

Re: Oregon Folks - Vacation Help

I'm pretty sure its still closed for the winter. Tripcheck.com is showing it closed. The Cascades Lake Highway is open after the winter though and that's well worth a trip. If you can, do the whole...

Re: Oregon Tourist Spot

Oregon is a big place, bigger than the UK in area so a lot depends on where you are going to be as other folks have said. Crater Lake would be well worth a visit. A bit further north, the Cascade...

Re: Credit Scores and Buying a New Car

I would avoid these places like the plague. One of the favourite tricks is to front-load the interest on the loan. For example, you buy a $12,000 car and put $2,000 down and finance the rest at 20%...

Re: WHERE???!!!

You may want to look at my neck of the woods, Bend, Oregon. Lots of outdoor stuff and a huge hospitality industry. Lots of resorts. It's not my cup of tea, but it looks like it may suit you.

Re: Changing UK Drivers Licenece to add a USA address

I can't find it now, but I'm sure there was a discussion a little while ago about why it's better to use your US license.

Re: Help on choosing a place in California

I was thinking Santa Cruz up to Pacifica or so, but getting somewhere decent for $2000 per month will be a struggle. No idea on schools though.
