Have to laugh at anything that decides which climate I would prefer.

Seems that cost of living is inversely correlated with healthcare quality.

Olympia, Washington was named as one of the best places to retire. Mild climate, cost of living and public amenities were given as the reasons

That isn't too far away from Oregon which was voted the 3rd worse state. I plan on moving to WA when I retire. I am not a fan of the 9% income tax and high property tax.

I wouldn't mind moving up somewhere near Seattle myself but it wont happen. Family ties have anchored here forever.

If the winters weren't so shit, Maine would be pretty good, especially if you didn't need to work.

Low cost of living, loads of nursing facilities, slow pace of life, generally has nice community feel in many areas.

I suppose there's a reason so many bugger off to warmer climates in the middle of winter though.

I have yet to find anything good about Olympia, certainly haven't considered it for retirement.

At the moment I would like to retire back down in San Diego due to climate and amenities, or return to the UK if California is not possible.

If I had to move anywhere else within California I'd choose Santa Barbara. Big enough but not too big and with enough amenities that matter San Luis Obispo would be next choice.

SLO is a nice choice, perhaps a bit young for a retiree.

It's a college town (Cal Poly) but it's only 12 miles from Morro Bay and I like the downtown. Small town atmosphere but with plenty of good stores and places to eat
