Re: American style flag waving patriotism

Having grown up in Australia I can honestly say that this is a fairly recent phenomenon. I don't remember Australia day ever being much of an event when I was a kid.

Re: Do your kids catch less sickie bugs than in UK?

When you move places you might pick up new bugs that you don't have any immunity to. When I first moved to Sydney from Armidale I came down with the proper flu, bronchitis and laryngitis all in the...

Re: Rural NSW

Life in Armidale is pretty good. It is reasonably cosmopolitan for a rural town and has lots of natural beauty surrounding it.
Inverell is very close to Armidale. It seems to be a town that is doing...

We have had a few hot days of above 30. Not normal for this time of year in Armidale. Had a storm this afternoon that has cooled things down.
Our rainfall is also way below average. If...

Re: You know you are in Australia when...

When I was younger you used to go to shopping centres and freeze because the air con was so cold. I don't seem to notice it as much these days. I suspect they have it on warmer to save electricity.

Re: You know you are in Australia when...

Considering the video link was posted in this thread I would assume that someone thinks that you know you are in Australia when you see racism...
That seems to imply that Australia is more racist...

Re: You know you are in Australia when...

I think if you go to YouTube and type in racism in Australia/UK/USA you would find an equal amount of this abhorrent behaviour.

Re: The snakes in Australia

I have lived here most of my life yet my encounters with snakes are quite small. Once I trod next to a black snake and it shot off in the other direction like a rocket.
I currently live on five...
