I would agree with that comment, but does it really take 14 days to disclose a breach. Would things have been different if the breach had been disclosed prior to the finalization of the deal?

This is what happens if someone gets hold of your SSN. Several people at work have had to impement PIN numbers on their tax returns, lock their credit, get a stupid amount of junk mail from people...

This is the guy that could not sign up for cable internet because he had an outstanding bill. Someone had used his SSN to open a Comcast account.

I had to explain to a USC Project manager how to get a credit report. He's lived in the US 6 decades and did not know how to get a credit report.

It just occurred to me, should I be checking my kids credit report somehow? They are not old enough to apply for credit, but does that stop someone using their SSN to apply?

I think they should send out checksum numbers every few years like they have on the back of credit cards. Maybe I should patent that idea specifically for SSNs.
