I think its really important not to write the OP's OH off as an alcoholic from the little information posted in this thread. Granted the amount being drunk is excessive and definitely harmful to his...

The "new" Australian Guidelines say that in order to reduce your risk of lifetime harm you should you should -

"drink no more than 2 standard drinks a day"

to reduce the risk of short term harm...
