I think the problem is that if you cast your mind back to the campaign, hardly anyone on the 'leave' side suggested that the UK would leave the single market and customs union. They sold the position...

Here is my 2 euro cents.

The problem is not 5 or 10 years in the future. The problem is March 2019. The UK triggered article 50, so unless anything else happens, it's hard brexit in March 2019.
