Barsha is a big area and most of it is villas, but I assume you're referring to the apartment ghettos behind Mall of Emirates and along Sheikh Zayed ;)

Aye. Pay no attention to Scamp. He has a personal vendetta against the metro because it doesn't take him directly from his front door to his favourite golf course ;)

Agreed. I came in 2008 so I remember the place well enough. The metro didn't open until 2009. Before it opened, Sheikh Zayed was packed with minibuses ferrying people to Jebel Ali from Deira/Bur...

It is a love it or hate it place.

JLT has better restaurants, much better traffic and none of the tourist hordes. Everything in the Marina is overpriced. Fine for drinks and being seen...

I'm surprised the employer isn't offering a few weeks or a month in a hotel apartment on your arrival as a way to help you settle into the country. This is generally par for course in this country...
