Re: Buying property - market trends?

Well, the answer I think at least some aspiring expats would like to hear is that it is or may be possible with due caution and planning.

This always somehow seems more appealing to me than the...

Re: Buying property - market trends?

Maybe most expats just don't take advice from some people on forums. Can't imagine why, but there must be a reason...

Re: Buying property - market trends?

I thought carefully about your advice for 0.5 seconds and have decided to give it the weight it merits in determining my final decision. Does space have weight?

Re: Buying property - market trends?

Agreed. Excellent! Better to have all these details up front before buying rather than after.

Re: Buying property - market trends?

All sound points, but all of those are already on the list. Basic forward planning. Also, Touraine mentions flies and that kind of thing. That also is already something I've noted to look into.

Re: Buying property - market trends?

Go on, I bet you fancy a nice bag of greasy fish and chips some cold winter evenings hunched around your cheese and wine.

Always beware of ex-pats keen to go TOO native. You don't have to totally...

Re: Buying property - market trends?

How 'rural' do you have to be before you lose connection to the Internet (at a reasonable speed)? Can't live without that.

Re: Buying property - market trends?

I can only do that for me. It's like trying to compare oranges with bananas. You make some first class points but then you resort to trying to define 'quality of life' for everybody.

For me:

Re: Buying property - market trends?

A lot of 'probably' and 'I bet' in there.

As Dickens once wrote in some obscure novel, 'facts is what we wants, nothing but facts'..

Re: Buying property - market trends?

Exactly! What's with all this 'investment' constantly creeping in here. I certainly never mentioned it. Quality of life is the thing and one person's idea of that will surely be different from...

Re: Buying property - market trends?

Or, unless of course a buyer is looking for something s/he wants and you don't. How do you know what any given buyer's circumstances and wishes might be?

Most expacts judge France from their...

Re: Buying property - market trends?

So, to buy at a true market price better to buy from French owners? But then there's the thing that they might/probably will not have the kind of twee stone cottage I wouldn't mind too much if it has...

Re: Buying property - market trends?

'Rural France'

Could you all clarify what you mean by this?

To me, Brittany is 'rural'. A house with near neighbours not within shouting distance is rural. A house in a hamlet is rural....

Re: Buying property - market trends?

The way this thread's going I'm thinking of offers around 200 quid (that would be cash..), take it or leave it...:-)

OK, thanks, but I don't have to do that for every thread, do I? I selected in profile 'no subscriptions', and thought that covered all threads.

Re: Buying property - market trends?

The implication of this is surely then that offers to buy should be low. I read on other threads that up to 20% less than asking price is not unrealistic. But if what you say is correct, even 20%...
