Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

Assuming you haven't been living in the US since May 2013 it sounds like your I-94 records are incomplete. I'd go back to the SSN and show them your passport stamps. ..... Or was your wife's L-1...

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

I am not aware of any requirement to be employed to qualify for an HSA, and there are ACA plans that qualify as "high deductible", so I don't see a problem for someone who is self-employed in opening...

An HSA (health savings...

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

Our BC/BS policy has an OoP. I didn't say that non-Kaiser policies don't have OoP maximums.

I did suggest that Kaiser policies might not have deductibles, as I have never been offered health...

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

I hadn't realised you were talking about Kaiser Permanente insurance, their policies are atypical, and there may actually be "no deductible", but like Nun said, there probably will be coinsurance,...

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

They have deductibles, they might call it something else, though I can't imagine what. That is the amount you must pay before the insurance kicks in. Typically it might be $500-$1,000 on a...

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

I have used the car insurance analogy myself in the past on other threads - if car insurance covered tyres, wiper blades, and batteries, then car insurance would be insanely expensive too!

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

Mine has been 100% cash up to now. ..... A few more days like the last three and I will be moving a part (not more than 50%) of the balance into something more "interesting". ..... Thank you for...

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

The bottom line with health insurance is how tight your family budget is. If your budget is tight then a small unexpected cost can cause a financial crisis, whereas if you can handle (financially)...

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

After five and a half years, our HSAs (we have one each) in aggregate are now a long way into a five figure balance.

We could pay the maximum OoP payment every year for four or five years from our...

Re: Medical Insurance - Deductibles Help

What she said. :)

What some people are slow to grasp is that if you have a policy that costs $300/mth with a $2,000 deductible but only have $1,500 medical expenses, you would have been better...
