Just realised....
It is 10 years this month I have been a member of BE! Wow a lot changes. Joined to get info on our move to Oz. Since then, spent 8 years in Oz and now back in the UK

It was VeryStormy that claimed an earlier date.And I don't have an answer - but Sue would know. She doesn't post very often these days AFAIK, but I will send her a PM and see if she responds.

My 1997 guess was based on the BE twitter feed, started in 2009, which says "founded 15 years ago".

I think usernet was pre BE. Paul and Sue founded BE as above.
