HGV in Scotland (Fife)
Hello all, I'll keep this to the point. I'm considering a move back to Scotland from US, I'm 54, single etc.
Are there any opportunities for a man my age to get a driving job? (HGV). I did some HGV driving 26yrs ago in Scotland, and am doing so at the moment here in US.
I remember back then there were very little jobs for lorry drivers, has it changed any?
Any help/advice is appreciated.

I don't know about the HGV market, but it appears that the PCV (bus driving) market got a few jobs going just now -

From the link above, you can see that First Group, one of the largest bus operator in the UK is looking for (as of 29 May 2016) trainee bus drivers in Wales, the South West, Aberdeen and the North of England.

Thanks, yeah I know I'll need to get my license (HGV) once there. Bus job sounds interesting!

Bus driving nowadays involves split shifts if you work for the larger national companies - i.e. you are out for 12 hours but only getting paid 9 hours. If you work for the smaller local independents, sometimes they can go under without notice. However, a job is a job and it pays the bills.
On the other hand, if you managed to get a job driving long distance coach tours, then you can be a bit better off. You can make savings by buying cheap fags and booze while doing European runs and coach tour customers can be generous!
