30% Ruling and non-EU Driving Licenses
Hi Folks,
As an expat who has moved to the Netherlands to take up a job, but still maintains his family and home in a foreign country (Malaysia), I'm eligible under the NL 30% ruling and have recently received a certificate confirming the same from NL government.
Tax issues aside, it also promises to provide an NL drivers license equivalent to my home country one without either invalidating my Malaysian Driving License or requiring me to take an NL test.
So far, so good...but does anyone know how, or indeed where to apply for one of these Driving License exchanges or more specifically how the process works?
Regards,
Andy

Driving licence exchanges are handled by the Gemeente, on behalf of the RDW.
How can I exchange a foreign driving licence in English/Driving licence

The first problem is: is your licence recognised in NL? Normally you would also have to apply for an international licence issued in your home country in order to start driving here immediately.
If your regular licence IS recognised then you have to surrender it when applying for an NL licence anyway..this also applies to EU citizens who come to NL to live.

That's not how it works with those under the 30% ruling, whose tax status is based upon having to maintain a home and family 'back home' (i.e. Malaysia for myself), where the NL driving licence is issued in addition to the home country one (i.e. my Malaysian one remains valid).
