Onceinalifetime, I agree with you about the quality of therapist. I am currently seeing a psychologist and have just been diagnosed with PTSD following a recent car accident. The first one I went to was a disgrace to his profession and came away after the hour with nothing other than knowing I needed help fortunately I am not payiing the bill work is. I then went to see someone else off the recommended list and she is fantastic and identified the issues within 10 mins of seeing her I walked away from the first session feeling the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders and that getting back to driving was achievable.

The danger with alcohol is not its depressing or elevating effect but the real damage it does to your internal organs and cognitive processes (because it causes permanest dehydration in the soft tissue) . Mood and personality changes due to over indulgence - either temporary or permanent are sustainable.
If a person does not care about these then they should not get depressed about drinking at all or too much.

I think it is the personality that is depresses rather than the chemical receptor reaction. Therefore getting drunk will only amplify what is already disturbing you - in a positive or negative way.
