Re: Yanks Welcome?
Not sure why, all of my American and EU friends that are already there say that the people they have met there are fantastic and it is a great quality of life. Again, it may have something to do with the fact that they are all working in higher education, not to be smug but tends to be a better breed if you know what I mean. sorry just couldn't resist I'm not going to have any friends on here am I. I'm going to have to totally rely on my beaming REAL LIFE personality and REAL LIFE socialising skills!

And smug fits perfectly: a self-satisfied air (with the undertone of it being wholly or largely unjustified).

In fact, the updated version is "Those who can do, those who can inspire teach".

Your higher education comment really makes me chuckle.. Us engineers, managers, directors, analysts, consultants are obviously on a lower plane than a lecturer or an 'intellect'...
And I'm gutted about the karma, spoilt my holiday that has.

Now, I am not even going to dispute the fat comments because well yes, I probably could stand to lose a few pounds...fat is a bit harsh as I think I am about average weight but nevermind. The place we're moving into has a gym and I am making it a priority to visit it regularly!! Although, I will be indulging in cheesecake tonight from waitrose because I've had a really crummy week and need some comfort food, maybe some Pimms too!
Now, I KNEW you 2 would get your panties twisted about my comment but in all honesty I do think that people that work in education, although sometimes a little self righteous, are a nice group of people that tend to be less confrontational, think before they speak, kind people, generally more amiable. I see it as they are sharing their passion with others and wanting others to be successful in the world, like they're doing they're part. As for myself, I only transitioned from corporate to education a few years ago so I am not quite there yet but I am on my best behaviour when in their company. Unlike you lot, that seem to bring out the worst in me
BTW - gorgeous 17 degrees today, need to get outside and enjoy what's left of it.

Just what the world needs: another illiterate, arrogant, self-righteous teacher.

however I cannot imagine why educators would enter the dark abyss of UAE unless of course they couldn't cut the mustard at home.
