Las Vegas shooting

Re: Las Vegas shooting
There's something in that. I even wonder if the US, numbed and bored by its excessive consumerism and obsession with celebrity and money, doesn't somehow enjoy these sick spectacles. Clearly, nobody wants it to happen to them, but it does for some become a kind of cathartic drama in a low meaning existence.

This doesn't necessarily stop you from a planned rampage if your own death is part of the deal, but if you were hoping to get away it might deter you.

It's starting to sound like this guy was simply on a suicide mission, but wanted to make a name for himself while he's at it. The fact that his father was violent and possibly psychotic suggests mental issues too. Maybe keeping up the veneer of normality just became too much and he snapped.

Re: Las Vegas shooting
That's a bit pointless when the law says you can freely walk around a Hotel or Casino with a gun; aka 'open carry'.
Can you open carry on the Strip or Downtown Las Vegas/Reno?
Yes. Casinos will likely ask you to leave or disarm if you are discovered carrying, but the only penalty is trespassing if you refuse to comply. Open carry is legal and police/security cannot stop it on public roads/sidewalks. Southern Nevada/Las Vegas Open Carry members have carried openly en masse several times in both Downtown and on the Strip.

"The owner can, however, ask you to leave. If you disobey this order on private property, the owner can have you arrested for armed trespassing. Most businesses in Nevada are firearm friendly – with the exception of casinos."

But the hotels and casinos are private property and they can restrict weapons on their property which the above also shows, the casinos/hotels can ask anyone found with a weapon to leave the property.

If you go through airport security with a loaded gun, you will get arrested. If you went through a Vegas hotel, you would only be asked to leave.
No further questions asked and probably no tip off to the local police, because it is not illegal to walk around with a gun.
Anyway, like others have said, if someone is determined enough they will find a way to kill innocent people. Look at all the recent rental van attacks in Europe. Sick bastards.
If gun laws didn't change when 20 young kids got killed at Sandy Hook, they will never change. And even if they did, people will still illegally own guns.
