Coffitivity

Coffitivity
I think this must be related to my white noise machine which helps me sleep.
I didn't know, but apparently there's this app that simulates the sounds of working in a coffee shop. Apparently (according to The Week which we get sent on subscription from the UK) this has been shown to increase productivity:
https://coffitivity.com/
This is all new to me!
I know it's not related to Canada directly (except that there are a lot of coffee shops!).
I'd be interested to know if people had heard of these things. I must be getting old!

Oh they should make an app that replicates various examples of bolloxity. The possibilities are endless.

Re: Coffitivity
News to me. Coffee shop sounds would drive me bonkers.

Re: Coffitivity
I'm talking about general bollox. Genghis Khan must been siting around his tent going, "You know about this Ivan the Terrible geezer? I've heard that he takes it up the jaxy." Or Sigmund Freud going, "That Pavlov bloke wouldn't be so naffing smug if he'd done his experiments with a goldfish."

Re: Coffitivity
I'm embarrassed to say, I too gave them a listen...I'm meant to be painting the kitchen
I didn't find them offensive, but I don't believe they'd increase my productivity, I think they'd interrupt my chain of thought...never difficult under the best of circumstances.
Interestingly when I played them I could smell coffee, and when I played the Parisian one cigarette smoke...

I'm disappointed this isn't coffee drinking related.
I thought Snowy had made up a word to describe it.

Re: Coffitivity
I was just incredulous when my husband read out the news item in The Week last night so I had to investigate. And it reminded me of the effect my White Noise machine has (it sends me to sleep very effectively!). So this seems to have a kind of opposite effect (increased productivity) but the principles (repetitive background noise) seem to be similar.
Does this make sense?!
PS: as a linguist, I'd say "coffitivity" is a kind of word blend of "coffee" plus (probably) "productivity" or "activity" (you know, like "brunch"; "webinar" etc.)
