Default Cell Phone Stupidity

I got a teeny bit of water on my cell phone yesterday - now when I turn it on it states "Insert Sim" even though there is one in it.

If I put my OH's Sim in my phone - it works - and if I put my Sim in my OH's phone - that also works.

So - what has happened? Other than some ploy from Rogers to make me sign up for another bloody 3 years?

Doesnt the 'free phone if you break it' policy apply to your contract then?

In the summer my 14 year old left his ipod touch in his pocket and it went through the full cycle in the washing machine!

I was hopping mad!You could see there was water under the touchscreen.

But we left it a week and it was absolutely fine, other than the date being back to 1972! But that was easily reset.

Maybe if you can just leave it a day or 2 it will be ok?

Take the battery out and put the phone in a bowl of rice for a couple of days. It will sort it out.

(do not use a hair dryer)

Better specify that is DRY rice (not cooked, special fried..........)
Hygroscopic nature of rice.
Have you got any of the little bags of silica gel that they put inside luggage or other goods to keep them dry? Put them in a bag with the phone for a few days to dry it out.

Don't put your washing in it, then. Your skinny jeans will come out flared!

LOL!

We were camping at a KOA site in the States and I was using the laundry there....the machine may have been bought in 1972! Maybe that was why!

I doubt it - though I could always ask. We had one new phone from them last year so that probably means we cannot have a new one until I reach my 100th birthday.

If drying everything out doesn't fix things, a new SIM card might. You can get a new SIM from Rogers for $10 these days, or free if you catch tech support in a good mood. There's no need to sign a new contract if you're just replacing the SIM.

What sort of phone comes without a hair dryer feature these days? It must be an old model not to have one built in.

Same thing would have happened with Virgin Mobile and possibly any other pay as you go provider so not really a gripe against Rogers.
