Re: Oman Air
I think you'd enjoy a stopover in Muscat.
Very interesting place with stuff to see.
Drive up to Nizwa is worth it.
Good souks.
Mind you I'm talking about 42 years ago, like.

Re: Oman Air
Until recently I used Omanair many times on Bkk to Munich in business. Bit by bit service was unattentive, entertainment choice were mainly Arabic and Indian movies. And champagne brand changed from a good one to a lowcost one. Positive until now is the small and easy to negotiate airport with a comfortable lounge when it is not overcrowded. This just depends on no. of flights arriving at the time. Apparently, the new airport is about to open.

Re: Oman Air
A friend of mine is using it always, he likes them. We will go for the first time with Oman Air next month. Before we were using Turkish, but they are to expensiv now.
If we are satisfied I hope they stay as competitive as they are as we don´t like to change.
Mid march they moved to the new Airport builing in Muscat.
When I am flying to BKK usually there is a lot of asian families and young western backpackers in the plane.

Re: Oman Air
Flown Oman loads of times, my route from Dubai to Manilla/BKK etc. half the price of Emirates, admittedly in Business but the new planes are great and the new airport is quite a bit bigger than the old one, but still as comfortable.
You really should take a 2 day stop over in Muscat, get a car and head into the mountains, Nizwa was mentioned, all around that area, cheap hotels too.
You won't believe you're in Arabia, incredibly friendly people.

Might do stop over on return leg. I also was there(Muscat) long time ago in 1952 with RAF when it was staging post. Unrecognizable now I guess.

Thanks so much to all responses, very helpful. Probably going to try it for trip back to UK. Just returned from trip to Sydney on MAS 330-300 Business Class. Worst business class seat I ever experienced - narrow, hard and only one toilet in use in business class. I think back to Sin Airlines or Thai via BKK for next trip to Oz.

Oman was my first overseas [posting and in many ways it was the best.
Really enjoyed my time there.

Re: Oman Air
Very comfortable seating in Business. All seats have direct aisle access without having to climb over anyone in both aircraft configurations used on the route. No complaints from me on the service or food and wine. Lots of Hollywood movies and assorted TV episodes to choose from.
Look at the Oman Air website for excellent two day stopover deals, bearing in mind that it is an expensive country.
Make sure you apply for a visa in advance online if you do intend to leave the airport.
The new airport is still a bit of a work in progress but I was through all the formalities and on the road very quickly on arrival. No more queuing for a visa and then queuing for immigration. On departure the business lounge is a big improvement on the old Terminal but still not up to Emirates standards.
