Default PR questions

Hi everyone,

I have a couple of questions regarding my Permanent Residence application. I applied as a Common Law partner and my application was received in early September 2017. My current open work permit expires in March 2018.

1: I completed an IMM5710 form and included it with my PR application. Is this all I need to do regarding extending my current work permit?

2: Do you receive any sort of official paperwork (e.g. a letter, email, certificate) acknowledging implied status, once that is activated?

3: I am booked to go to New York for work for a couple of days in late March, but after my current work permit expires. If my new work permit hasn't come back by then, can I still travel on implied status? Is it unwise to do so?

4: On the home page of my account on the CIC website, under my PR application, it says "Your Action Is Required". However, when I go into the details of my application it says that everything is submitted and that they are processing the application. I've uploaded the additional documents they've asked me for. Should I be concerned about this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

What you need to do depends on what you have, and what you've applied for, and what you want. Is your current work permit LMIA? LMIA exempt? IEC? Did you apply inland or outland? Do you want to be able to continue working, or just wait in Canada?

(I'm *guessing* that most likely response is you've applied inland, and want the spousal work permit while you wait? If so, that should be what you need, but there could be a variety of other situations).

2: Do you receive any sort of official paperwork (e.g. a letter, email, certificate) acknowledging implied status, once that is activated?
Implied status by definition is unannounced (it's implied). Whether you'd get it depends on the above. If you applied for an open work permit as part of spousal sponsorship, physical paper will arrive in the mail.

3: I am booked to go to New York for work for a couple of days in late March, but after my current work permit expires. If my new work permit hasn't come back by then, can I still travel on implied status? Is it unwise to do so?
You cannot travel 'on' implied status. Implied status exists while you're in Canada. If you leave Canada, you will need to be readmitted, and your new status in Canada will be whatever you're readmitted under assuming that you are readmitted.

Eh, myCIC is pretty useless. Mine still says that, and I landed six months ago

Welcome!

Thanks for your help! My current work permit is IEC. I applied for my PR and work permit extension inland, and I definitely want to continue working. I have a contract until the end of June which will likely be extended for at least another year.

The main thing I need to know is if I need to do anything else regarding extending my current work permit, or whether the IMM5710 form I filled out is enough. If it's the latter, I'm getting impatient waiting for CIC to get back to me. I really want to hear from them, especially given the work trip to New York in March which I mentioned.

I believe that you cannot get implied status based on an IEC, but others are better informed than I.

Yep, what he said. ^^

If you're on an IEC then you've not applied to extend anything, you've presumably applied for a new work permit as part of your inland spousal sponsorship? So you need to wait for that.

HTH and welcome to the forum.

Thanks everyone for your help. I guess I need to play the waiting game. I'm going to try to call CIC t ask them too, but getting through to them is pretty much an impossible task.
