Hi, it's the rating given to every vehicle regards emissions etc. If you google your vehicle make and "euro cat" it should bring up data telling you which cat your vehicle is.

They are emissions classifications, the higher the number, the lower the pollution:

The categorisation takes into account emissions and the type of fuel and the type of engine etc.

Easiest way to find out your Euro cat and hence find the relevant Hungarian equivalent is to google for technical specifications on the make and year of your car. Or search on Parkers for your car then select the year and model, you then select read facts & figures, click on the relevant vehicle and then the "more info" link.

Not a problem, I didn't think you had.
Just didn't think Logger would be able to work out his/her "cat" from the wikipedia page as there are several different considerations when working out the rating and it can be somewhat confusing - so gave him a couple of pointers to where he can find the rating for his/her vehicle.

The Parkers link help me crack the Euro Cat riddle, thanks Rural.

One thing I noticed, taxwise it works in your interest, not to be in too much of a hurry like me. I've been working on this one for years. For each month you delay registration of your vehicle, the registration cost is reduced by enough to keep you in beers for a few days. That's not bad! Think I'll wait a few years, drink a bit more and enjoy myself on the government!

Do I assume from all the posts on this that to get insurance you have to register your car?

Hi Judybaby, yes, legally you can only have your vehicle in Hungary for six months before having to register it.

And in the meantime..... The police will remove every foreign plated vehicle from the roads so that by the time the proposal is passed, there will be none left Never before witnessed as many foreign vehicles being pulled as I have done in the past few months

Our car is so old I can't find any info on it 's Euro Cat.

Parkers is selling one for less than £1000. I only paid £1200 for it 4 years ago.

It's a diesel and a good runner, got us here from UK brilliantly!

We could buy another car but want to wait until we've had most of the work done on our house and see how much money we haven't got left!!

Just as a matter of interest...how many people have actually registered their RHD car here and what problems if any have they faced? For example, if you have a Hungarian registered car I am assuming you need a Hungarian Driving License?
