hi there,
I'm a british expat. Have lived in Germany for 43 years. Is there anyone out there from Essex looking for support or friendship?

Re: hi there,
Were you in Leipzig at the time of the GDR ? Western residents then were a bit of a rarity. I knew a few - including John Peet, the journalist.

Re: hi there,
Hello Scot47,
Well how nice to hear from somebody from Merry Old England. No, I wasn't in the GDR all the time. I moved to the East just before (about 7 months) the wall came down. Before that I lived in Wuppertal, Radevormwald and Remscheid. Today I live near Colditz.

Re: hi there,
Sorry scot47 no offence. People here say England for Britain. You can be proud to live in such a beautiful part of Britain. I did a round trip of the lowlands many years ago. It was one of the best holidays I ever had.

Hard to beat our German cousins on the technology front. There was a similar experimental train in Milngavie outside Glasgow but that has long gone !

Re: hi there,
Another German transport invention is the Adelaide O-Bahn, but it hasn't been widely adopted anywhere else.
The time lapse clip shows just a short section with a bus beginning its journey in the city and transferring to a special track, and the follow-on video shows more clearly how it works. Ordinary buses with small guide wheels transfer to a concrete track where drivers don't need to use their steering wheels.
The system is currently being extended.
