What I do know is that OAS entitlement is based on the number of years you were tax resident, they actually send you a letter asking the question normally and they also seem to share records with HMRC so they know pretty accurately if you're entitled, I would get hold of Service Canada and ask if you didn't get the letter.

But anyway, it's 20 years tax resident in Canada to receive OAS abroad.

You can get entries and exits history from the UK (very detailed it is too) but only for the last 5 years.

Good afternoon all, I apologise for not having written earlier but I've had a really difficult time getting into this site. I'm not sure if it's my email server, but regardless I've made it.

I just wanted to say thank you to all who took the time to write - I appreciate your efforts (with one exception mind you...)

There is some information that gives me heart that it won't be a soul destroying exercise. I'll contact Service Canada and confirm with them how they calculate the 20 year qualifying period and let the calculations take care of themselves. I'll just be grateful for the opportunity and for what they give me. I actually didn't realise I was even vaguely eligible so anything's a bonus.

I'll certainly do that - from my summer home in Bermuda (fat chance!!)
