Are you using Unotelly's VPN? I am still seeing that all of their region pickers are down.

I've used IPVanish and it's fantastic. You have to pay a recurring fee but can choose what subscription suits you. Works on PC/laptop/tablet (Apple and Android).

My wife has just finished watching the first three episodes of VICTORIA on ItvPlayer so Unblockus.com still works. I watched some BBC on its player this afternoon.

Region picker has been down for ages. The region picker in Dynamo, though, only changes the region for Netflix. Other sites assume you just want UK, so BBC is still working fine even with region picker down.

WE are using the DNS service, not the VPN.

Oh well HMA VPN stopped working with BBC iplayer yesterday. It stopped working with Netflix some time ago. Anyone else still able to use HMA for BBc or Netflix?

Bbc have now announced that following last months change in the law, they will require a login based on license info to use iplayer, and that only registered ip sddresses will have access. Expected to be live some time next year.

This is not exactly correct.

I actually *read* the article, which I found here: BBC iPlayer login will be required from 2017 - BBC News

Here's what it actually says:
-Currently, having a BBC ID is optional to watch iPlayer
-if you do have a BBC ID you will now have to add a postcode to it
-the postcode currently will not be used to enforce the purchase of a TV license, rather just to give localized/personalized recommendations
-from 2017 you will have to have a BBC ID to watch iPlayer
-there are currently no plans to use the postcode system to verify if you have a TV license (which makes sense because multiple houses/properties can have the same postcode, so there's no way to tell just with a postcode whether or not you live at a property that has paid for a license)

ETA: I just double-checked this. I went to BBC and it asked me to update my details. I had to select my country. I selected the UK, at which point it asked for a postcode, so I used a very old one. It accepted it as a valid postcode and I'm on my way. I didn't test what happened if I'd selected Canada instead as my country, but the country drop-down does include all countries.

Well, if you had used your iplayer to listen to the interview with their subcontracted development manager on the breakfast program you would have heard how they are modifying the app / website to allow all of the stuff i related above.

I dont believe however all this is definitely going to go live, depends on sentiment, but when they say 'its this or less programming or more license money', millions will throw expats to the wolves, esp in the current brexit world.

The bbc is allowed to do anything now to prove you are a valid user so long as it doesnt inconvenience existing users too much. IMHO The proof will be in a few months when renewing your tv license, you are expected to provide some new personal info which can later be used to validate your login/usage, i cant believe they will ask for ip address but they may ask for broadband supplier which will identify your address i believe. They even confirmed that usage abroad 'on holiday' Is being discussed where the beeb own rights, but only for a limited period.

Incidentally, if you check the paf [postcode database] theres a flag identifying which codes are unique to addresses and which are shared so if they want, they can use this to identify some non license holders, but i strongly suspect that they are already aware of any holes in payment, you just have to compare the 2 db's which give full addresses eg the fact that postcode x has 18 addresses, flats a to r of 13 acacia avenue for example. Of course there is zero evidence that they can see what a flat screen on a pc/tablet is watching, [not true for crt] despite their attempts at fud recently.

I use unblockus and have my region set to the UK so I can watch BBC iPlayer on my AppleTV. Everything works flawlessly, BBC, Sky News etc.

Anyway, last night I went to watch some Netflix and I got the attached error. Emailed unblockus and this is their response.

Thanks for contacting us today

Unfortunately we do not have solution for Apple TV at the moment because the Netflix app is currently connecting without DNS lookup and bypasses DNS overrides.

In the meantime, we suggest accessing Netflix using a computer (PC or Mac) in order to stream contents from other regions.

What a PITA.

Boo. That sucks. Unotelly hasn't worked with Netflix in months, we gave up and just left the region turned off.

Why not switch to Crave? $8/month.

Also, why not stick with Netflix? I don't mind it...
