Yep. Exactly what I said when Netflix started curbing access to US Netflix from Canada. We kept Canadian netflix but at a reduced subscription, and now turn to "other" methods not requiring $$$ for getting the content we want.

There is a somewhat intelligent explanation of why the BBC won't please us expats here.
I would pay $100/month to access their services abroad. I think that's a fair price. Most people I know spend around $200 for satellite or cable feeds monthly.

We pay $125 a month and that's only because we have a couple of other bundles to keep the kids happy.

Yep... Our cable bill is around 100/mo after taxes and after a whole slew of discounts and free cable boxes i've got put on. That isn't counting Internet or Home Phone either.

Try living somewhere with looser regulation, 15 us a month here will get you a local iptv box with access to everything it's possible to pay for in every country of the world it seems, but don't ask how...

Those are some hefty cable TV bills. I took a look at this several years ago and finally decided to go with just internet service. The combination of hardware, think Apple TV, Roku box etc and other similar devices mean that unless you are really wedded to it you can get by quite adequately without Cable TV. I still have access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu Sky News, NBC, ABC, CBS etc History Channel, Nat Geog, TED (great channel) and many more. Mirroring my computer to the TV expands my selection even further.
But with this difference I pay less than $50 a month for just internet service - less depending on your geographic location as its cheaper in different parts of the country.
Do I miss Cable TV, not at all. Its actually a godsend to not have to watch the local TV channels with their 'preening' TV personalities who can barely string two sentences together.

Yep same back home in Malta. I could have TV, Internet and mobile phone full extras all under 100euro/month there.

My bill for TV, Phone and Internet is $35 a month in total. All go through internet of course.
Internet, if you're in Ontario is as low as $30 (15M) per month for unlimited bandwidth. I use Carrytel as provider (PM me if you want the details to save even more).
For TV, all the channels you want (US, UK, French, German, Italian, Sports, etc...) just get an Android box. You can use apps like Filmon and lots of addons on Kodi to get all the channels for free. You don't need VPN
For phone, just get Freephoneline. Just pay a one time fee and you have your phone line free for life.
Cut the cord with Rogers, Bell etc... it's easy peasy

For Android boxes, I recommend the Google Nexus Player (discontinued unfortunately) or NVidia Shield. For closed captioning, you won't get any for live programs but for streamed and downloaded ones, you can install addons that search and download the subtitles for you automatically.

Comparable to the other small providers, all of whom have customer service issues now & then, and the fact that you never know if they'll still be in business 12 months from now
My ISP provider is Bell, 'no contract' great deal up for renegotiaton soon is 25/10 - 300Gbp usage (fibre to the home from the pole, with the fibe receiver in the home), no install fee, no modem charge, all in cost is $39.95/mth +tax for 12 months. Full regular price $69/mth ongoing. Actual speed I get anytime of day is 20/20
I cut the cable in 2014, using an OTA indoor antenna getting 40+ channels
I rarely use or need our Amazon firestick with Kodi loaded into it
Android boxes are IMO a pain in the backside
