I can see why you might have thought that, but my thoughts are people in work are finding it increasingly difficult to get by leaving some to ponder if they might be better off on benefits. The assumption that getting a job will see you right is no longer the case. Even those homes with both parents working seem to be struggling. Compare that with 50 years ago when it was standard for stay-at-home-mums and we see how bad it's become.
