Scuba diving
Would like to learn in the UK before we go to OZ.
Anyone know how much it costs, where you can do it (leisure centre?), how long it takes etc.?
(Going to validate on 16th Feb, going to live in Oz in about 4 years.)

I just noticed when you are going to live in Oz. When your label expires in 5 years you will have to stay in Australia another year to maintain enough residence to get a RRV or citizenship. If you leave Australia after the 5 years but before RRV eligibility you could lose your PR.

Takes about a week (or intensive weekend) to cover the theory and pool work, depending on your instructor;s schedule, then you have 4 dives, but that's not a problem as your instructor can give you a letter to take to Oz, and you can do the dives here while on holiday, if you don't want to do them in the UK. Not sure what it costs these days. Check for a local club, which has the use of pool facilities.

I'm just looking into getting my open water. The best quote I have had so far has been from aquaticadventures.com.au. The course is $499 all up including all pool entry fees and equipment hire.
I'm doing the course at Roweville (Nice and near the sea..not) and the open dives are done over a weekend somewhere on the Mornington Peninsula.

Fully aware thanks bp!
(My wife is doing her 3 years Nurse Training + 1 year experience before we go hence 4 years)
No plans to leave Oz for at least 2 years after that.

Answer is 'no', I'm afraid - I've not had much to do with instructors and clubs since getting here, being off doing my own thing. I was waiting until I got more settled before committing to a club. Frog Divers have a good rep with those I've talked to. Still, I'll have to get myself down to a club soon - Mrs DUP wants me out from under foot!
