Thanks for the email. Yes, we are accredited valuers for Australian
Customs. Our fees start at $265, depending on where we have to inspect the
unit, ie, the wharf, bond store, with or without Customs in attendance. The
vehicle is valued in what is known as the Australian Landed Value, ie, what
I perceive your vehicle is worth in the country of origin (your case the UK)
+ the cost of the freight & insurance then converted into Australian
dollars. You pay 5% on the amount less the freight & insurance, then this is
added to the ALV & you pay 10% on the total. ie say ALV is $10,000aud
including freight & insurance of say $2,000aud, you would pay 5% on $8,000 =
$400 + ALV $10,000 = $10,400 + 10% GST = $1040. We also provide compliance &
registration to get the car on the road when it arrives. Regards Kevin

Importing a car from UK
Hi
Would anybody know what we have to do once car gets to the port ?
Will it be easy and cost effective to bring in a BMW 120D 2005 reg.
Worth about £6500
Can we just drive straight on the road or are there things needed ?
Cheers

Re: Importing a car from UK
There are a few things needed before you can drive it. You need to have the car checked over by an engineer although I think that depends on what State you are in. Then you need to get a roadworthy, then get the car registered, pay the stamp duty and then you can drive it away.
